Organisation Types
Organisation Type describes the legal or organisational structure of an Organisation in PracticeFlow.
It is separate from Relationship, which determines whether the Organisation is a Client or Prospect.
The Organisation Type can affect the information held against the record, Companies House integration and the Smart Tasks available.
Organisation types available

| Limited Liability Partnership (LLP) | Full | Separate legal entity combining partnership structure with limited liability |
| Partnership | No | General Partnership, as distinct from an LLP or Limited Partnership |
| Limited Partnership (LP) | Full | Partnership with at least one general partner and one limited partner |
| Sole Trader | No | Individual carrying on a business personally rather than through a separate legal entity |
| Community Interest Company (CIC) | Full | Company established for community benefit and subject to the CIC asset lock; not a charity |
| Charitable Company | Full | Company with charitable status, normally limited by guarantee with no share capital |
| Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO) | Partial | Incorporated charity structure for England & Wales |
| Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation (SCIO) | Partial | Incorporated charity structure for Scotland |
| Charitable Association | No | Unincorporated, usually membership-based charity |
| Charitable Trust | No | Unincorporated charity governed governed by trustees, usually under a trust deed. |

Adding an Organisation
Where an Organisation has a Companies House listing, the best way to add it is through the Companies House search.
Go to Organisations and then Add Organisation and search by organisation name or Companies House registration number.
PracticeFlow imports the available Companies House information and determines the Organisation Type where possible.
This applies to Organisation Types with either a Full or Partial Companies House listing.
Organisation Types with no Companies House listing are added manually.
Why Organisation Type matters
Organisation Type is used for more than classification.
Depending on the type selected, PracticeFlow can:
- display relevant information such as company number and charity status.
- determine whether Companies House information is available
- enable or disable relevant Smart Tasks
- apply the appropriate filing and deadline rules
- determine which external registers or links are relevant
For example, a Limited Company can use Accounts and Confirmation Statement Smart Tasks, while a Charitable Trust follows a different annual filing process.
